1. Apply for National Insurance Number (https://www.gov.uk/apply-national-insurance-number) The process may take up to 8 weeks. Proof of application is accepted to be able to start work right away.
2. Apply for Benefits (https://www.jobcentreguide.co.uk/trowbridge-jobcentre) This link is for the Trowbridge office, which is closest to Melksham. You are entitled to £200 per month while you look for a job. (Other benefits are available.) 3. Open a bank account. There are many options to choose. You will need proof of identification, such as a biometric passport. The government is working with banks to make the process simpler for you.
4. Enrol with a doctor's surgery in your settled community. Also a dentist.
