Someone asked me about the weather on the South East coast, looking for a warm seaside.

QuoteI have - attached - weather maps of Great Britain.  The South East coast is lovely. So is the South West coat - warmer in winter that the south east, though not as warm in the summer - so a more gentle climate. It also rains a little more there. Do consider that too.  We and our area is inland - I have added a black marker on the maps to show you where we are.   We love our climate and would recommend our area, save for the lack of sea - it's about 100km.

Homes for Ukraine Update

We would like to thank you again for your generous offer of accommodation for those fleeing the war in Ukraine. Over 200,000 expressions of interest (EOIs) have been received from people in the UK willing to offer accommodation. These have been useful to help the Government prepare services and support for Ukrainians who might arrive in the UK over the coming months.

We're getting in touch now to inform you of progress, share updated guidance, and let you know about the next steps we'll be taking.

Some applicants have been waiting nearly three weeks for their visa applications to be progressed or an outcome communicated, and we acknowledge that this is unacceptable. We are speeding up the processing of visas and, having prioritised family visas in the first instance, we are now working to accelerate the award of visas under Homes for Ukraine.

The latest data on visas issued under both the Homes for Ukraine and Ukrainian Family schemes was published today by the Home Office. You can view it here:
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/ukraine-family-scheme-application-data

While many more sponsors will welcome Ukrainians in the coming weeks and months, we also recognise that not all those who expressed an interest in offering accommodation will be able to proceed: some homes, for instance, may be too remote for Ukrainian people who would like access to jobs or who may not be able to drive. Some sponsors, when informed of the level of support people fleeing Ukraine will need and the more detailed criteria, including accommodation standards and safeguarding checks, have chosen to withdraw. We appreciate this and the many reasons for withdrawal – it is no small commitment to host people fleeing a war zone. There will be many ways to help Ukrainians in the UK, other than providing accommodation.

There are instances, too, where Ukrainians with UK sponsors, who have had visas granted, have chosen to remain closer to home as the immediate threat of war fades from their home area. This should be respected by us all, while our doors remain open should circumstances worsen.

Future matching
Many of you who registered an interest in sponsoring have not yet found anyone from Ukraine to sponsor. Finding the right match can be a highly personal decision and requires understanding and planning on both sides. There are already community and voluntary organisations helping to generate matches among communities they know. We are working closely with a number of these organisations and the local government sector to help make it easier for you to sponsor. We will provide further information shortly about how you can work with them to help find a match among Ukrainians who want to come to the UK.

Useful information and guidance
We have published a factsheet that explains how Ukrainians can apply to the Homes for Ukraine scheme, with translations in Ukrainian and Russian. It includes advice on eligibility for the scheme, how to apply, and preparing to travel. You can read the factsheet here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/homes-for-ukraine-factsheet-for-ukrainians

We have also published a welcome guide for Ukrainians arriving in the UK, with Ukrainian and Russian translations. It includes information about what your guests need to know in the first few days and about getting used to life in the UK, including how to access essential public services. You can read the welcome guide here:
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/welcome-a-guide-for-ukrainians-arriving-in-the-uk

You can find answers to frequently asked questions on our guidance page (also in Ukrainian and Russian) which is regularly updated: please keep an eye on it, particularly as your role as a sponsor progresses. You can read the guidance page here:
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/homes-for-ukraine-scheme-frequently-asked-questions

Residents of Scotland
The Scottish Government will in the next few weeks be contacting residents in Scotland who have expressed an interest in hosting Ukrainians. You will be sent a survey gathering more information from you. Local authorities in Scotland will then carry out the relevant safety and background checks. You can find out more information here:
https://www.gov.scot/publications/super-sponsor-scheme-and-homes-for-ukraine-guidance-for-local-authorities/pages/role-of-sponsors-and-councils/

Residents of Northern Ireland
Further information and guidance for Ukrainian arrivals and sponsors in Northern Ireland can be found here:
https://www.executiveoffice-ni.gov.uk/publications/information-ukrainians-arriving-northern-ireland

Residents of Wales
In the next few weeks, the Welsh Government will be getting in touch with people in Wales who have expressed an interest in hosting Ukrainian people, to ask for some additional information and for your agreement for local authorities to undertake relevant checks so you are ready to act as a sponsor/host.

Thank you once again for registering your interest in the Homes for Ukraine scheme; your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Quote from: Nataliia on Apr 13, 2022, 03:52 PMGood afternoon.  Me and my daughter (20 years old) from Zaporozhye, Ukraine.  Of the war, we were forced to leave home and now we are in Warsaw.  I ask for help to leave temporarily for your beautiful country.  Please help us with travel, housing and work.  I am 63 years old, I have an economic education (I worked in banks).  My daughter is 20 years old, she studied sociology.  We also have a 9 year old cat.  We are a friendly family.  We are asking for help.  Thanks

Hi, Natalia, and welcome to this forum. I have passed on to Lisa and Stuart and asked them to look to add you into our matching process ... we are just a small part of this beautiful country.  I have used the email address you signed up with as a contact point - is that OK?  You can also email me via graham@ukraineuk.info .

The "Homes for Ukraine" scheme in the UK helps link up [British] hosts and Ukrainian guests and British hosts look for potential Ukrainian guests - our group help that looking, as very few of us knew anyone from Ukraine just a few weeks ago and very few of you knew any of us. British hosts register with the scheme to say they have places available (so that is housing), and then potential guests apply for a visa.

Once a visa is sorted out, we are looking at travel ... and I can (and will be more) writing up about that - but it comes after the visa.   Once you get here, take a look at work; in our part of the country there are plenty of opportunities unless you can only work in your area or expertise - all the banks in our town have closed as people bank online now, for example.   Do not worry too much about the gap between arriving and finding a job, because there is support available while that happens.

"А в інших районах Англії є подібні пропозиції?" ("Are there similar offers in other areas of England?") writes Лариса Попивняк (Larisa Popivnyak).

(In English below)

Yes, there are.  In many parts of England, people are offering rooms in their homes to guests from Ukraine, to come and stay in safety. It is under the "Homes for Ukraine" scheme.

We (English) register what we have available with the UK Government (the UK being England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) together, and we then find Ukrainian families who wish to come here. We then sponsor them as they apply for visa.  The UK government checks them, our local / regional government checks us and if all is in order, the guests can travel here.

First guests have arrived in the last few days, and many, many more are in process. But there are problems ...

The first is that we don't know any Ukrainians who need our help, and we still don't know very many.  That is matched by there being many Ukrainians who don't know English people.

That is why Stuart Pearce set this group up - to help English in our area finding people in need and who wish to come here from Ukraine, and helping match them Then for us to work together to offer support as we (in England) support our new friends from Ukraine apply for visas, and travel and then live here.  None of thes stages will be easy, and a group like ours will bring people together to help them learn from each other along the way.

Back to the original question - Yes, there are other groups. We know of other nearby to us in towns like Trowbridge and Devizes, and that there are many others in different places too. But we are each "talking" with people and looking out for contacts and people we can help, and we are not a national matching organisation - we are purely volunteers.  Thank you for finding us - we just happen to have appeared in your Social Media feed as we reach out our hand of friendship.  You will need to watch for the other groups, or post to ask and find them.

A Google search gave me Harrogate, Hereford, Cambridge, Reading, Malvern, Wychavon, Basignstoke, Brighton, Gravesham, Sefton, Lewes and Stoke-on-Trent for starters ...

Hello! We are a family of 5. My name is Mila (41). My husband Alik (51), and our three daughters - Maria (18), Varvara (4) and Mira (2).
We are looking for a sponsor in UK.
We are sociable, clean, have no bad habits.
We like to play board games, as well as outdoor games. Alik is a coach, he helps people find their calling, their favorite thing. Maria is an actress. I love to embroider and knit. Before the war, I worked as a kindergarten teacher. But I want to develop in online business. I have extensive experience in tourism and event management.
Our English are lower intermediate now. We want to learn English so that we can speak it fluently.
We would like to take advantage of the sponsorship scheme for Ukrainians.
We would like to live in city, or town, or suburb, it may be a village too, if there are opportunities for job.
It would be great if there are 2-3 rooms for us and the possibility to use the kitchen.
We need free housing for the first few months and support with food, essentials and some things for kids for the first time while we get a job.
We have own big house in Ukraine, and we have always been warm and hospitable hosts. Now we are the guests ourselves. And we will be very glad to take your care.

Thank you!
